Cricket- An American Kestrel

Cricket, a female American Kestrel, came to the Macbride Raptor Project in 2009.  She suffered a right wing injury that prevents her from being released into the wild.  Cricket was given her name because of the 'cricket-like" chirping sounds that kestrels make.

American Kestrels are about 10-1/2" long, have a 23" wingspan and weigh around 5ounces.  They hunt by hovering over their prey before diving down to catch the small rodents, birds, reptiles and insects they they feed on.  They can often be seen perching on power lines near open fields.

Thank you for supporting Cricket, the American Kestrel.
